Our business was founded in 1942 and was the forerunner in Europe in the production of twine, nets and ropes made from synthetic and natural raw materials.

COTESI gave rise to one of the strongest companies in Portugal, Violas SGPS, which always kept it as a family business. The company has accumulated vast experience and tradition in the domestic and international markets.

Manuel de Oliveira Violas was a self-made man becoming a major industrialist, triumphing in all he did.

The small factory Corfi, (an acronym of the words “Cordoaria e Fios”) was the cradle of what would become the Violas empire which had its origins in the pure and hard industry and, later, stretched its tentacles to the most varied range of economic sectors: real estate, tourism, leisure, banking and food.

Cotesi – Companhia de Têxteis Sintéticos, S.A. was the forerunner in Europe in the production of twine, nets and ropes made from synthetic and natural raw materials. Today, COTESI is the world´s largest producer of baler twine.

1996 - COTESI UK & LP WEIDEMANN A.S

Already with a large volume of exports, the internationalization of Cotesi began in 1996, with UK and Denmark, in a strategy of proximity to the end customer.

2002 - CORFI AND COTESI MERGER

Until the beginning of the new millennium, Corfi continued with the manufacture of sisal twines and ropes. In 2002, all activities of the two plants went to Cotesi, in Grijó.

2003 - Cotesi of Brazil

Exclusive sisal twine producer, Cotesi do Brazil covers since 2003 the needs of the entire American market.

2003 - POLYEXCEL (USA)

2003 is also the year in which Cotesi begins its internationalization in the North American market with the acquisition of PolyExcel Inc and PolyExcel Llc.
